Periodontology

menu

In modern dentistry, a periodontist is an indispensable component in the comprehensive rehabilitation of the patient.

A periodontist is a doctor who diagnoses and treats periodontal disease, ie a complex of tissues surrounding the tooth.

Periodontal disease is asymptomatic for a long time, and with the appearance of complaints, changes in the tissues around the teeth can be irreversible.

When to consult a periodontist:

  • Bleeding gums when brushing teeth and eating solid foods
  • Swelling or growth of gums
  • Pain, itching and discomfort in the gums
  • The gaps between the teeth increase
  • If there is an unpleasant odor
  • Dryness of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity is felt
  • Visual hard plaque (stones)
  • Tooth mobility has appeared

During the diagnostic examination, the doctor performs a basic screening of the tissues surrounding the teeth: plaque staining (plaque test), determining the degree of bleeding gums, tooth mobility and the presence of periodontal pockets (psr test).

When significant changes are detected, a periodontal chart is performed, which allows to assess the dynamics of treatment, the condition of the teeth, gums and the depth of periodontal pockets.

Our approach to the treatment of periodontal diseases is complex – with the participation of a periodontist, dentist, in some cases, a dentist-surgeon will be involved.
